TIME FRAME 2-4 weeks OVERVIEW
These posters focused on using a strong visual metaphor to create unique and compelling designs that people would want to keep and hang on their walls. Overall, I aimed to practice my illustration skills as the central focus, with typography serving as a secondary element. ROLES Illustration, Layout, Typography

ZOO TUNES POSTER OVERVIEW Zoo Tunes is an annual summer concert series at Woodland Park Zoo. Playful animal illustrations interacting with instruments create a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, inviting attendees to enjoy music and support wildlife conservation.
PROCESS
Sensory Exploration: I began by creating a mind map based on the five senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch—to capture the experience of watching a band at Woodland Park Zoo. I watched videos of past events and reviewed past event photos to get a feel for the atmosphere, which is family-friendly.
Image Collection: Next, I collected photographic images that represented the words from the senses mind map. Many of these images included nature, sunrays, and scenes of people interacting with friends and family.
Visual Research Mood Board: I examined previous posters and advertisements for ZooTunes. Most of these designs featured vectorized animals and instruments, but there was often a lack of connection between the two elements.
Style Mood Board: Using the information I gathered, I began to form my visual concept. I aimed to create a more fully illustrative style compared to the zoo's past work, incorporating more detailed elements that would make the poster more interesting.
Thumbnail Sketches: I focused on creating playful central images of personified animals. Eventually, I honed in on the idea of animals emerging from musical instruments, creating an interactive element that links music and the zoo, thereby forming a unique and engaging connection.

LA LA LAND POSTERThe mood of this poster can be best described as "romantic and nostalgic melancholy." This is expressed through vector-style illustrations and silhouettes that highlight the subject. Cool tones such as blue and purple are complemented by pops of orange and yellow, and the poster features an Art Deco or vintage typeface. The design appeals to true La La Land fans by using iconic colors from the movie, instantly evoking its nostalgic feel. Initially, the viewer sees the various colors and the spotlight on the silhouette, but upon closer examination, they will notice that the two spotlights form a music note.
PROCESS
Research and Inspiration: After watching the movie and noting important passages and themes, I created two separate metaphor mind maps centered on the themes of following your dreams and romance.
Mood and Imagery: I collected images that represented the mood and imagery from the mind maps to create a metaphor mood board with the overall feeling of nostalgic melancholy.
Style and Execution: I developed a mood board to convey the style I wanted for the poster, focusing on simple shapes, vectorized imagery, and cool tones reminiscent of the iconic sunset scene of the couple dancing in the movie.
Concept Development: I produced 25 thumbnail sketches, exploring different compositional tools and subjects to find the most effective way to convey the desired mood and themes.
