PROBLEM TO SOLVE
Currently there are few magazines that focus on the contributions of women in the field of STEM. For women who are interested in learning about other women pioneers and their contributions, there isn’t a comprehensive resource available for them. How can we inspire, educate and empower  women to encourage our current generation of women to pursue STEM?

DEMOGRAPHIC RESEARCH
After conducting research online, I created three user personas that summarizes the challenges our potential readers may face. Hidden Heroes focuses on inspiring those reluctant to explore STEM, current STEM professionals looking to educate others on the field, and those looking to advocate for gender equality in regards to both challenges and progress that still persist within STEM.

PROCESS & INSIGHTSCreating an inspiring yet modern way to address STEM to capture and engage our audience’s attention was the driving force behind the brand. Bold, punchy colors alongside collage style imagery helped give readers a more approachable way to look at a more traditionally subdued topic.

I created design system for the magazine. For historical figures they would be featured in black and white imagery while contemporary figures would be in full color. For layout and color palette, I wanted to create a design that is more engaging by having a bold and vibrant color palette and playful interactions between text and imagery.
